Trojans Top McNeese State

“We didn't play all that well in today's match,” coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “We had to fight to
win today and we did it in five games.”
In their first game against McNeese, the Trojans (4-3) fell behind quickly in the first game and couldn't catch up. The Cowgirls increased their lead to 10 before holding on to win 30-18.
In the second game, the Trojans reeled off eight points in a row at the mid-point of the game to and traded points with the Cowgirls until the Trojans were able to put the game away late, 30-21.
In game three, McNeese (2-4) lead by as many as eight points as they took the lead of the set, 2-1 winning game three, 30-22.
The Trojans came out with a vengeance in the fourth game of
the match.
In game five of the set, the Trojans and Cowgirls were back
and forth for the entire match. The
Trojans were down 7-5, but two kills form Aubre Smith and an ace from Jessica
Strama gave the Trojans the 9-7 lead.
Meghan Gilroy and Jean McCarthy nailed down the final five kills to end
the match and give
“We need to keep getting better,” Kirkpatrick said. “I think we are headed in the right direction but we need to keep fighting,”
