TROY, Ala - Troy University's volleyball team continued it's winning streak on Tuesday night against Kennesaw State University with a 3-0 victory over the Owls (32-30, 30-14, 30-24), improving to 9-7 on the year with its fifth straight match victory.
The Trojans got off to a hot start, taking an early lead against the Owls, 12-5, in the opening game. Troy increased its lead to eight points but a tough Kennesaw State team closed the gap and forced extra points before the Trojans prevailed 32-30.
During the second game, the Trojans came out with both guns blazing, dominating the Owls 30-14.
The third, and final, game was no problem for the Trojans either, as they continued their aggressive attack against Kennesaw, taking the win, 30-24.
"I am very excited for the girls after adding another win to our season record," head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "We are playing extremely well and I am very happy and proud of our efforts."
The Trojans were led offensively by Meghan Gilroy, who had 16 kills. Jean McCarthy chipped in with 11 and Aubre Smith had 10 as the Trojans posted a .394 hitting percentage for the match. Meghan Washlow had 23 set assists for the Trojans in the victory.
The Trojans open conference play this weekend as they host Western Kentucky on Friday night and nationally-ranked Middle Tennessee on Saturday night. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
"We are very excited about the upcoming matches this weekend," Kirkpatrick said. "We will see how we measure up against these great teams and see how far we have come."
