Hard Work Marks Day Two For Trojans

TROY, Ala. ? The Troy University Trojans football team completed its second day of fast-paced practice in shorts on Friday and a three-hour session at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
The team will return to practice on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. for the first of two days in shoulder pads and shorts before starting full-gear practices on Monday.
"We got a lot of good work in tonight," Trojans coach Larry Blakeney said. "It is obvious that we have a lot of guys who have retained a lot from last year and they are moving around very well. It is nice to see so much speed and confidence in just the second day of practice."
The humidity on the turf at Movie Gallery Stadium resulted in some cramping and other expected early camp ailments, but the players all bounced back quickly and returned to action.
One of the most impressive plays of the night was made by sophomore defensive end Brandon Lang when he tipped a screen pass from Omar Haugabook to himself for an interception.
"My impression of these first two days is that we have a chance to be a decent team," Blakeney said. "We'll know more after we put on shoulder pads tomorrow because that will force us into more of a football angle and we can work on some wrapping up and hitting a little."
The Trojans will continue with single practice sessions through Monday before holding two-a-day practices on Tuesday and Thursday next week. All practices are open to the public.
Troy will open the 2007 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Arkansas.
