Trojans Fall to UAB in Home Opener

TROY, Ala. ? The Troy volleyball team put up a fight against UAB on Tuesday night in front of a rowdy home crowd but it was not enough as the Trojans fell 30-24, 30-23 and 31-29.

Troy (2-2) sophomore Meghan Gilroy in her first match of the season led the team in kills with nine. Gilroy also had four service aces to add depth to the Troy offense. On defense she along with junior Aubre Smith posted two solo blocks and three block assists.

Freshman Megan Henderson was also a force on the Troy offense as she guided the team on the court as the main setter. Henderson posted 23 assists and 10 digs.

Smith and freshman Vicki Rogoschewsky each had six kills to add depth for the Trojans on Tuesday.

UAB's Ivana Bozic led the team in kills with 15, while Aleksandra Vujovic and Fernanda Domingos each posted 10.

Troy almost force a fourth game when it tied the score at 29 in game three but the Blazers were able to hang on and pull out a 31-29 win for the match.

As a team the Trojans posted nine blocks to UAB's five and 34 kills.

Troy will be back in action on Saturday Sept. 1 when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Samford Tournament.
