TROY, Ala. - Troy University senior quarterback Omar Haugabook was one of 35 players named to the 2007 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® Watch List on Tuesday.
The O'Brien Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and inspires student-athletes to triumph both on and off the field.
Haugabook, who was named the preseason Player of the Year for the Sun Belt Conference after winning the award for the 2006 season, threw for 2,401 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2006, his first season at Troy. The Belle Glade, Fla., native was named Most Valuable Player of the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl after throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for another in the Trojans' 41-17 victory over Rice.
“It has to be considered a great honor for any player to be mentioned as one of the better players in the country,” Trojans head coach Larry Blakeney said. “Omar is certainly a deserving player and I am sure that he will handle the pressure that comes along with an honor like this in a positive manner.”
Haugabook and the Trojans will open the 2007 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Arkansas.
