Late Home Run Sinks Trojans in Final Game Against UNO

TROY, Ala.- Josh Tarnow hit a solo home run off of Neal Jordan (1-2) in the top of the 12th inning as Troy fell to New Orleans on Senior Day at Riddle-Pace Field, 8-7.
UNO (32-20, 15-12) jumped on Troy starter Ryan Ellison in the second inning with three runs on a home run from right fielder Drew Anderson.
The Trojans (32-21, 15-12) answered back with five run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Josh Dew walked followed by a single from senior Kevin Weidlich. Sophomore Beau Brooks singled scoring Dew followed short stop Charlie Calamia blasting his third home run of the season. Senior Ian Craze doubled to left and came around to score on an RBI single by Edgar Ramirez for the 5-3 lead.
UNO plated two runs in the fifth inning on a pair of home runs from Nick Schwarner and Johnny Giavotella.
The Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Dew led off the inning with a single followed by a double form Weidlich. Tyre singled scoring Dew with Weidlich scoring on a sacrifice fly from Brooks giving Troy the 7-5 lead.
UNO tied the game in its half of the eighth inning when Giavotella singled and scored on an error by Ramirez. Joey Butler singled and came around to score on an RBI double by David Broussard.
Junior Ryan Ellison got the start of the mound four Troy going five innings while allowing five runs on six hits and striking out six batters. Freshman Tim Wheeler pitched the next four innings allowing two runs on five hit while striking out nine batters. Three Trojan pitchers struck out 19 UNO batters on the day.
Weidlich led all hitters with four hits. Ramirez, Dew, Calamia, and Tyre each added two hits.
The Trojans will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Mobile to face South Alabama in the final conference series of the year.
