TROY, Ala. - Florida Atlantic rebounded after a double-header loss on Friday to defeat the Troy Trojans (32-11, 11-4 SBC) by a score of 5-1 in Sun Belt Conference action at the Troy Softball Complex.
Becky Brandies led off the game with a solo home run and the Owls (24-19, 6-6 SBC) never looked back as Troy managed only one run.
The Trojans' lone score came as part of a two-out rally in the seventh inning when Heidi Johnson singled in pinch-runner Kim Kelly.
Troy stranded nine runners in the game, including leaving two runners in scoring position in the seventh. Troy was trailing 2-0 at the time.
FAU added three insurance runs in the seventh with two coming on a Blair Bodemiller triple. She would go on to score on a wild pitch.
Heather Rush (now 5-4) was charged with the loss for Troy after pitching four innings and surrendering two runs.
She was relieved in the circle by Michelle Grinage (3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K).
Stacey Dwyer, Courtney Davis and Johnson all had two hits for the Trojans.
Despite the loss, due to Louisiana-Lafayette losing twice to FIU the Trojans are guaranteed to be at least tied for first-place in the Sun Belt Conference heading into the next week of play.
Troy will return to action on Tuesday at home against Alabama State with first pitch scheduled for 5 PM. Admission to all home softball games is free.
