Trojans Pound Out 16 Hits in 14-4 Win Over Louisiana Lafayette

TROY, Ala.- After losing the first two games of the series, the Trojans put up 14 runs against five Louisiana Lafayette pitchers to win the game 14-4 and avoid the sweep on a windy Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field.
Louisiana Lafayette (28-9, 13-5) got on the board first when Josh Logan singled and scored on a single from Scott Hawkins.
Troy (20-16, 8-7) pounded out 16 hits off of five Cajun pitchers. The Trojans put up four runs in the third inning when freshman Shohei Fujita singled up the middle followed by walks to seniors Edgar Ramirez and Josh Dew. Fujita scored on a passed ball. Senior Kevin Weidlich hit a three-run home run to right field to give Troy the 4-1 lead.
Troy added another run in the fourth when senior Bryan Miller led off with a single and later scored on a single from senior Ian Craze.
Troy added two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Weidlich, freshman Trevor Tyre, Miller and freshman Beau Brooks each singled in the fifth inning with Miller and Brooks each recording an RBI. In the sixth, senior Clint Robinson walked and scored on Dew's sixth home run of the season increasing the Trojan lead to 9-4.
Troy added five more runs in the eighth inning to end the game. A 10-run rule is in effect on Sunday during conference play. Fujita, Weidlich, Tyre and Robinson all singled with Ramirez and Craze both collecting doubles. All batters scored with the exception of Fujita ending the game at 14-4.
Junior Ryan Ellison got the start on the mound for Troy. He threw three innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four batters. Dew (6-0) came on in relief to finish the game and get the win. He threw five compete innings and struck out a career-high eight batters. Dew gave up two runs on seven hits.
The Trojans were led at the plate by Weidlich and Miller who had three hits each. Weidlich also added three RBI. Craze, Tyre, and Fujita each had two hits.
Troy will return to action Tuesday night as they face Kennesaw State at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
