Troy Falls to Middle Tennessee

TROY, Ala.- The Trojans gave up 17 hits in a 13-4 loss to Middle Tennessee.
Middle Tennessee (6-8, 1-0) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. Blake McDade was hit by a Clegg Snipes fastball. Rawley Bishop singled followed by a RBI single by Zach Barrett. Justin Jones followed with an RBI double. Matt Ray then hit a two RBI single to right field making the score 4-0.
Troy (9-7, 0-1) answered back in bottom of the third. Senior Ian Craze led off the inning with a single up the middle. Senior Edgar Ramirez then hit a 2-1 fastball over the wall if left cutting the score to 4-3.
"Middle came to play ball," head coach Bobby Pierce said. "They jumped out on us early and we came back but then they put it out of reach."
In the fourth inning, Senior Kevin Weidlich belted a home run to right field knotting the score at 4-4.
Ray led off the fifth inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Brett Henry. Ray scored on an RBI single by Wayne Kendrick giving the Blue Raiders a 5-4 lead. Middle Tennessee sent both runners on a double steal and with a bad throw by Ramirez, one of the runners scored making the score 6-4.
In the sixth, the Blue Raiders added another run when Jones and Robertson hit back-to-back doubles with Robinson tallying another RBI. Ray reached base on a walk and Campbell was hit by a pitch. Warren came through with an RBI single followed by a two RBI single by McDade increasing the lead to 10-4.
Middle Tennessee added three more runs in the seventh when the Trojan pitchers gave up two doubles, a single and one walk.
"We will have to bounce back tomorrow," Pierce said. "Tomorrow is a new day, and hopefully we can come back and get a win."
Snipes (1-2), suffered his second loss of his collegiate career. Snipes tossed five innings giving up 10 runs on 11 hits. Snipes walked one while striking out seven.
Matt Scott (2-1), was the winning pitcher as he also tossed five innings allowing four runs on seven hits.
Prior to Saturdays game, the 1987 National Championship Baseball Team will be honored. Pre-game ceremonies will start at 5:30 p.m.
Troy will be back in action on Saturday as they will play game two of the series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
