Robinson Slams the Door on FIU

TROY, Ala.- Senior Clint Robinson hit a grand slam in the third inning that put the Trojans up early and they held on for a 7-6 win.
FIU (13-12, 1-3) struck first when Raimy Fuentes, Cody Jacobs and Corey Lozano all singled. Lozano's single scored Fuentes followed by a James McOwen double to right field that scored two more runs giving the Panthers an early 3-0 lead.
Troy (14-9, 5-2) answered right back when freshman Steven Felix led off the third inning with a single followed Senior Edgar Ramirez taking a pitch on his left hip. Senior Kevin Weidlich singled up the middle scoring Felix. Senior Josh Dew singled to left setting the table for Robinson. Robinson hit a fastball deep to right for a grand slam. The home run was Robinson's ninth of the season and it gave the Trojans the lead at 5-3.
FIU got a run back in the fifth when Junior Arrojo singled followed by an RBI double by McOwen making the score 5-4.
Head coach Bobby Pierce was pleased with his team's effort.
"We played a good game tonight," Pierce said. "Clegg pitched well and we swung the bats well and we competed, that's what we have to do to win games."
The Trojans added a couple of insurance runs in the seventh inning when Dew reached on an error by the third baseman. Robinson scored Dew on a single to right center. Sophomore Brett Henry followed with an RBI single making the score 7-4.
FIU added two runs in the eighth closing the gap to 7-6 but that's as close as they got.
Senior Clegg Snipes (2-2) pitched a solid game going six innings giving up four runs on eight hits. Josh Dew (4) came in to get the save.
Chris Allen took the loss for FIU lowering his record to 1-3. Allen gave up seven runs on 12 hits.
The Trojans will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m.
