Trojans Fall to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Trojans and the Blazers battled back and forth and Troy left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth as they fell to UAB 7-6.
Troy (13-9, 4-2) got on the board first when senior Ian Craze hit his second home run of the season. Senior Josh Dew followed two batters later with his fifth bomb of the season giving the Trojans an early 2-0 lead.
UAB (10-11, 0-0) answered back with a four run inning of their own. The Blazers hit four singles in a row and also added a double as they scored four runs on five hits.
Troy got three runs in the sixth as senior Edgar Ramirez led off the inning with a single. Senior Kevin Weidlich reached on an error followed by a sacrifice fly by Dew that scored Ramirez. Senior Clint Robinson belted his eighth home run of the season and his fourth in four games giving the Trojans the lead 5-3.
UAB came right back and scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and regained the lead 7-6.
In the eighth, Ramirez and Dew both walked. Ramirez scored on an RBI double by Robinson. Brett Henry was intentionally walked to load the bases for senior Ben Woods. Woods ran the count full and fouled off three straight pitches before striking out and ending the threat.
Junior Ryan Ellison got the start on the mound for the Trojans. hurling 3 1/3 innings and giving up four runs on six hits while walking three batters. Jeff Green (1-2) came on in relief of Ellison and tossed two innings and gave up three runs on three hits while taking the loss. Neal Jordan came in to finish the game by throwing the final 2 2/3 innings giving up one hit and struck out three.
The Trojans will be back in action as they will host Florida International in Sun Belt action. First pitch is scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m.
