Troy Beats Michigan 13-6

STARKVILLE, Miss.- Troy used a seven run, seventh inning to beat the Wolverines 13-6.
The Trojans (9-3) got on the board in the second inning when senior Kevin Weidlich homered for the third time this season. Weidlich hit a 1-0 fastball over the wall in right field giving Troy a 1-0 lead.
Michigan (3-2) answered back in their half of the inning when Zach Putnam led off with a double followed by a single from Adam Abraham. Putnam scored on a sacrifice fly by Doug Pickens.
Troy plated three runs in the third inning when senior Ian Craze hit his second double of the day and scored on an RBI single from Brett Pierce. Senior Clint Robinson followed with his fourth double of the season and scored on an RBI single from Weidlich, giving the Trojans a 4-1 lead.
Michigan answered right back with a three run inning of their own. Alan Oakes led off with walk. Eric Rose reached on an error by Shohei Fujita. Nate Recknagel was next up and he hit a home run deep to left field tying the game at 4-4.
The Wolverines took the lead in the fourth when Jason Christian walked and later scored on a wild pitch.
Troy tied the game with a run in the sixth when junior Bryan Miller led off getting hit by a pitch. Freshman Steven Felix laid down a bunt moving Miller to second. Next sophomore Brett Henry singled to right scoring Miller, knotting the score at 5-5.
Troy broke open the door in the seventh inning as Pierce led off the inning with a single. Robinson was hit by the next pitch and was followed by a walk to Josh Dew. Weidlich and Miller both hit RBI singles. Felix was then hit by a pitch and Henry followed with an RBI single. Miller scored on a wild pitch which moved Felix to third and Henry to second. Craze then singled to left scoring both runners, giving Troy a 12-6 lead.
Troy added another run in the eighth as Dew scored on a double by Weidlich.
Craze and Weidlich were both 4-for-5. Craze had three doubles on the day. Henry was 3-for-5, while Fujita was 2-for-3.
Senior Joe Hallahan pitched four innings, giving up three hits and surrendering five runs. Junior Ryan Ellison (1-1) was the winning pitcher on the day. Ellison came on in the fifth inning and gave up one run while striking our four.
Troy will face Mississippi State in the afternoon game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
