The Trojans will travel down the road to Dothan, Ala. for the annual
Screentech Baseball Classic. The field for the tournament will be one
of the toughest in the tournaments history. Troy will play the late game
each day as they are the tournament host.
Troy will face Indiana for the first time since 1997. Troy is 0-2
against the Hoosiers. The last meeting, Indiana won 4-1. Friday nights
game against Troy will be Indidna's first game of the season.
Georgia Southern comes in sporting a record of 8-3 including a
sweep of Georgia Tech. Troy swept Georgia Southern last season by
scores of 14-10 and 6-2.
In the finale, Troy will face off against Southern Miss. Th e Trojans
and Golden Eagles met five times last season with Southen Miss winning
three out of the five. Southern Miss swept Troy during the regular
season but Troy got their revenge by beating them in the regional and
ousting from the tournament thus ending their season.
Troy will enter the tournament after surrendering their third loss of
the season to an SEC opponent. Auburn pounded out 11 hits and scored
11 runs as they beat Troy 11-3.
In last years tournament Troy lost the first two games against South
Alabama and Michigan before starting their 14-game winning streak
with a win over UAB.
-Bobby Pierce (Alabama, ?˜82) is in his fifth season at Troy and hasa 152-89 record aft er guiding the Trojans to a 47-16 in 2006. Pierce was
named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and the Alabama
Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2006 after leading the
Trojans to an Sun Belt title. In his career as a head coach, Pierce has won
682 games in his career as a college head coach, including 259 at Chipola
(Fla.) Junior College. His record at four-year schools stands at 428-197
and he is in his 12th season.
