TROY Ala.- The Trojan pitching staff had trouble all day finding the strike zone and the Razorbacks took advantage of the poor pitching performance to beat the Trojans 16-2 and take the series..
The Razorbacks (4-2) got the day started off with a Casey Coon two-run home run and the Hogs never looked back.
Junior Ricky Ibarz (0-1) couldn't find the strike zone nor could any pitcher who came after him.
Freshman Time Wheeler came in and for two innings struck out four Razorback hitters before surrendering two home runs for the second straight outing..
In the second inning the Razorbacks plated seven runs on four hits. The Trojans pitchers helped out Arkansas by giving 14 free rides to their batters by way of walks and hit batsmen. The school record for hit batters in a game was three but the Trojans pitchers erased that record in the second inning as they hit five.
The Hogs scored multiple runs in all but three innings. In the fifth inning Arkansas used a two homerun inning to put an exclamation mark on the win.
Duke Welker (1-0) had a solid performance today giving up four hits over five innings.
The Trojans (1-2) didn't have much to cheer about as the only runs came in the form of a Josh Dew home run. Dew hammered a fastball over the fence in left center to give the Trojans their only two runs of the game.
For the second time in the series, the Trojan pitching staff struggled to throw strikes.
"Our pitchers today didn't throw well at all," head coach Bobby Pierce said. "We walked too many people, hit too many people, and just didn't execute."
Sophomore Brett Henry was one fo the bright spots for the Trojans this weekend. Henry was 5-for-8 on the weekend and made several big plays at third. Robinson also had a good day at the plate going 2-for- 4 with an RBI
The series to the Hogs was the first series that the Trojans have lost since they lost two game against Louisiana Lafayette mid-way through the 2006 season.
"We have got to keep working and keep getting better," Pierce said. "It's a long season and this doesn't make or break us, but we must get better."
The Trojans will be back in action Wednesday as they travel north to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
