Trojans Conclude Fall Practice with Annual Cardinal-Gray World Series

“This is a time for our players to have fun and compete amongst themselves,” head coach Bobby Pierce said. “Our guys are still battling for spots in the spring and this series will help solidify some of those spots.”
The Trojans have been practicing this fall in preparations for the upcoming 2008 season and Pierce is pleased with several aspects of his team.
“I am pleased with our offensive performance as a team,” Pierce said. “The new players are playing well and we are beginning to take shape. We have had some inconsistencies with our pitching staff and we must improve those areas in order to be successful.”
The series will consist of two, nine inning games with a third game if necessary. The winning team will have bragging rights until next fall.
Perhaps the most on the line is the pride between the opposing coaches. The coaches for the Cardinal team will be Mike Murphree, Tom King, and Ian Craze. Edgar Ramirez, Clint Robinson, and Jimmy Kolaitis will head up the Gray squad.
Murphree is a volunteer coach for the Trojans while King, a former All-American, and Craze are former players. King led all of college baseball in 2006 in doubles and hits. He also set school records in both categories. Craze, was the everyday centerfielder for the Trojans in 2006 and 2007. Both were members of the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Championship team.
On the Gray side, Ramirez was the second baseman for the Trojans in 2006 and 2007. Robinson was a late addition to the coaching staff but his reputation should speak for its self. He made a name for himself in 2007 by etching his name at the top of the
Friday's game will begin at 3 p.m. with Saturday's showdown starting at noon. The teams will play the “if necessary” game Sunday at 12:30.
