Troy University senior Leodis McKelvin was named to the Rival.com 2007 All-America team on Thursday. McKelvin is the first Trojan to be named first team All-America since Troy's move to Division I-A (now Bowl Championship Division) in 2001.
McKelvin, a native of Waycross, Ga., was selected as the punt returner on the 27-man squad. He was one of just two players from outside the six BCS conferences to be named, joining Utah punter Louis Sakoda.
McKelvin is the only player in the nation to return three punts for touchdowns this season. He ranks third in the nation with an average of 18.3 yards per return; that includes a 74-yard touchdown against Oklahoma State, an 84-yard score against Florida International and a 52-yard touchdown against North Texas.
McKelvin and the Trojans will return to action this Saturday against Florida Atlantic at Movie Gallery Stadium. Kickoff for the game is at 1 p.m. and the winner will represent the Sun Belt Conference in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.
