TROY, Ala. - Troy University and Jacksonville State University will meet for the 57th time Wednesday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Jacksonville.
Troy leads the all-time series 37-19, and has won back-to-back games for just the fifth time in the series history. The Trojans defeated Jacksonville State 64-58 at Trojan Arena December 2, 2006.
The last time the two teams met, Amy Lewis led Troy to the victory with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. Kylie Morrissy added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting while Valencia Hairston added 12. Morrissy also added a game-high 10 rebounds for the Trojans. Larelle Roper collected eight assists in the victory.
Overall, Troy has won five of the last seven games in the series, and seven of the last ten games dating back to 1999. The Trojans also own the longest winning streak in the series, dating back 1979 when the Trojans started a 19-game winning streak over Jacksonville State.
Since joining Division I, the Trojans are 11-7 against Jacksonville State, while they are 3-1 under head coach Michael Murphy.
Troy (3-1) is coming off of a tournament title in the Holiday Inn Select Thanksgiving Tournament, hosted by Tulsa, this past weekend. Lewis and Morrissy were named to the All-Tournament Team, with Lewis being named the Most Outstanding Player. Junior point guard Larelle Roper had a big tournament, as she scored seven of her nine points down the stretch to help beat Western Illinois in the opener and then hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat Tulsa 62-61 in the championship game.
Game time is set for 7 pm, and is the last road game before the Trojans play their first home game against Belhaven College on Friday, November 30.
