Tilt With Mean Green To Highlight Homecoming Weekend

TROY, Ala. ? Fans and alumni returning to the Troy University campus for homecoming festivities this weekend will have a full plate of athletics events to choose from.
In addition to Saturday's football game against Sun Belt Conference foe North Texas, there are no fewer than eight other homecoming weekend events for Troy athletics.
Of course, the main attraction will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday when Troy coach Larry Blakeney leads his Trojans into Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium for the 200th time in his career. The Trojans are riding a four-game win streak, which equals the program's longest since moving to Division I-A, and have sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference championship chase.
The game will be televised locally on WRJM-TV as well as across the southeast on SportSouth.
The weekend will get off to an early start on Thursday with Homecoming Spirit Day, which will include a pep rally at Trojan Arena at 6:30 p.m.
Activities will begin to pick up on Friday when the Troy soccer team hosts Florida International at 3 p.m. Beginning at 1 p.m., prior to the game, Troy soccer will be hosting “The world's largest soccer tailgate” at the Trojan Soccer Complex.
Following the soccer game on Friday evening, Trojan volleyball will take to the floor at Trojan Arena for a Sun Belt Conference match against North Texas. That event is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
On Saturday there will be a full slate of activities, starting with the Troy Baseball Hall of Fame Breakfast and Induction Ceremony. All former players and supporters of Troy baseball are invited to attend at the Stadium Club when former Trojans coach John Mayotte, and former players Casey Smith and Kevan Burns, along with long-time supporter Jerry Lott, are inducted as the 13th class into the Troy Baseball Hall of Fame.
Activities will move to Trojan Oaks Golf Course at 9 a.m. for the start of the annual Coach “O” Invitational Cross Country Meet. Legendary coach, and long-time Troy supporter, coach Charles Oliver will be in attendance for the event. The women's race will start at 9 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 9:30.
From there is will be on to the Homecoming Parade, which will start in downtown Troy and end on the Troy University campus. The afternoon can be spent tailgating, leading up to kickoff of the football game.
After the game, the Troy volleyball team will be back in action at 6 p.m. against Denver at Trojan Arena.
On Sunday there will be another full slate of action for Troy fans to enjoy. Activities will start at noon when the Troy soccer team returns to the pitch at the Trojan Soccer Complex for a Sun Belt Conference match against Florida Atlantic.
Troy baseball fans can get their first glimpse of the 2008 Trojans at 1 p.m. when they take on the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition game at Charles Henderson High School.
Finally, the long weekend will wrap-up at 2 p.m. when the Troy junior varsity football team takes to the field at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium against Mike Turk's junior varsity team from Huntingdon College.
With the exception of the football game against North Texas, admission to all of the weekend's events is free. Tickets to the homecoming football game are available through the Troy Athletics Ticket Office for $24 (reserved seats) and $15 (general admission).
