The Troy University Cheerleaders will host an open gym event on February 18, 2007, March 11, 2007 and April 1, 2007 from 2pm to 5pm in Wright Hall Gym. This event will give anyone that is interested in cheering for Troy University for the 2007-2008 season an opportunity to meet the current cheerleaders and start finding a stunt partner or group for the upcoming tryouts to be held April 13-15, 2007.

ITEMS NEEDED TO ATTEND:

Open Gym Application (must be signed by a parent/legal guardian)

Photocopy of the front and back of your health insurance card

$10 fee

TRYOUTS FOR 2007-2008 TROY UNIVERSITY CHEERLEADING SQUADS

All tryout activities will be held in Trojan Arena and are closed to the public.

Friday, April 13, 2007 6:00 pm
(check-in and warm-up)

The tumbling portion of tryouts will begin at 7:00 pm (female and male participants required to attend).

One cheer, one chant, and one dance will be taught immediately after tumbling tryouts for female participants only.

White t-shirt and black shorts is required for male candidates. White sports bras and black shorts are required for female candidates. No writing or logos allowed on either top or shorts.

Saturday, April 14, 2007 9:00 am
(check-in and warm-up)

Cheer, chant, and dance tryouts will begin at 10:30 am (female participants only). Please be at Trojan Arena by 9:00 am for roll call and warm-up.

The gym will be opened again at 2 pm. You will then have an opportunity to find a stunt partner or group for stunt tryouts in the evening at 7 pm.

Report to the gym at 6 pm for roll call and to warm-up for stunt tryouts.

Sunday, April 15, 2007 1:00 pm

New squad members posted at 1:00pm on front doors of Trojan Arena. There will be a mandatory meeting at 1:15pm in Trojan Arena for new cheerleaders only.

TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS

Male: Co-ed Stunts and tumbling
Female: All-girl Stunts, tumbling, cheer, chant, and dance

New for 2007: Female participants will be judged only from all-girl stunts.

It is recommended that you have mastered the following skills prior to trying out at Troy.

Stunts:

Co-ed	All-Girl
Toss Shoulders/Pop-off	Liberty/Full or double down cradle
Toss Liberty/Pop-off	Heel Stretch/Full or double down cradle
Toss Heel Stretch/Full or double down cradle	Arabesque/Full or double down cradle
Optional Stunt/Full or double down cradle	Optional Stunt/Full or double down cradle

Tumbling (no spots will be offered during tryouts)

Standing back handspring

Standing tuck

Backhand spring tuck

Running series (round-off back handspring tuck or better?”minimum of three tricks)

Cheer (taught during pre-tryout clinic)
Chant (taught during pre-tryout clinic)
Dance (taught during pre-tryout clinic)

SQUAD COMPOSITION

Cardinal Squad (all-girl or co-ed) is composed of at least 12 females (if it is an all-girl squad) or 6 males and 6 females (if it is a co-ed squad).

Black Squad (all-girl or co-ed) is composed of at least 12 females (if it is an all-girl squad) or 6 males and 6 females (if it is a co-ed squad).

The squad is composed of 1-2 mascots (T-Roy).

Alternates are added to the squad at the discretion of the cheer coach.

Numbers on selective squads are subject to change at the discretion of the cheer coach.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Cardinal:
The individuals selected as a cardinal squad cheerleader will receive a scholarship (amount to be determined) divided into two academic semesters. This squad cheers for home & away football games, men's basketball, all related pep rallies and activities, any competitions approved by the coach, and any other events or games approved by coach.

Black:
The individuals selected as a black squad cheerleader will receive a scholarship (amount to be determined) divided into two academic semesters. This squad cheers for home football games, women's basketball games, all related pep rallies and activities, any competitions approved by the coach, and any other events or games approved by coach.

T-Roy:
The individual(s) selected as T-Roy will receive a scholarship (amount to be determined) divided into two academic semesters. Mascot performs at all football, basketball (men's & women's), all related pep rallies and activities, any competitions, other events or games approved by coach.
