Trojans Fall to Blazers in Three

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team lost its first road match of the season on Wednesday night when it dropped three games to UAB by scores of 30-21, 30-16 and 30-20.
The Trojans (2-5) were never able to gain the momentum to pull ahead of the Blazers only recording 24 kills for the match. Troy's attack percentage was .047 with three Trojans posting negative percentages.
Sophomore Aubre Smith and freshman Meghan Gilroy have led the team offensively since beginning the season but only recorded 13 kills between them. Gilroy did have the best attack percentage for the match though as she posted a .357 percent.
UAB's Ivana Bozic guided the Blazers offensively as she posted 17 kills for a .333 attack percentage and six service aces.
Also leading UAB in the match was Nevena Stefanov who had 39 assists, two service aces and four digs. In game one, the Trojans were down 16-6 before battling back to a respectable 30-21 finish.
UAB jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in game two but the Trojans continued to stick with it but could not overcome the deficit falling by a final score of 30-16.
The third game was closer as the Trojans narrowed the Blazers lead to six but never staged a comeback and dropped the game 30-20.
Troy will be back in action Friday and Saturday Sept. 8 and 9 when it travels to Starkville, Miss., to compete in the Mississippi State Microtel Classic.
