Trojans Lose to Owls in Four

TROY, Ala. - Troy started its match with Florida Atlantic off strong but could not hold onto the momentum as it fell to the Owls, 30-24, 19-30, 17-30 and 28-30.
Troy (7-14, 1-4 SBC) only had six fewer kills then FAU (6-8, 3-1), who had 60 as a team, but could not capitalize in key moments for the win.
Sophomore Aubre Smith led the Trojans in the match as she had 15 kills for a .286 hitting percentage. Freshman Kerry Heinz also helped the Trojans offensively as she had 12 kills with a .162 attack percentage.
Sophomore Meghan Washlow had 41 assists and 20 digs to give the Trojans some assistance.
FAU's Justine Petry had 20 kills for a .514 hitting percentage to help lead the Owls in the win. Iana Andonova also had 18 kills with a .325 attack percentage to give FAU assistance on offense.
In game one, Troy and FAU traded points but then Troy pulled away 13-7. Troy extended its lead, 20-7 but the Owls continued to fight and pulled to within four but the Trojans proved too much.
Troy and FAU traded points once again to begin game two but then the Owls jumped out to a big lead, 13-7 and the Trojans battled closing the gap, 15-10, but could not take the lead.
Down, 9-5, Troy fought to close the gap and got to within five, 18-13 but was unable to gain the momentum to take the lead and win the game.
Game four began with the score a little closer, 6-4 FAU but then the Owls pulled ahead, 13-8. Troy then tied the game at 19 and continued to trade points with FAU before the Owls pulled out the win.
Troy will be back in action on Thursday when it plays Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. in Monroe, La. Then Friday, Troy will travel to Lafayette, La., to face Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. and will then play New Orleans on Saturday in New Orleans, La.
