Trojans Fall to Panthers on Friday

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team could not overcome the strength of Florida International as it fell by scores of 30-20, 30-28 and 30-27.
Troy fell to 7-13 overall and 1-3 in Sun Belt conference play while FIU improved to 12-4 and remains undefeated in conference play, 4-0.
Troy had a hitting percentage of .080 for the match and only had 31 kills compared to FIU's 51 kills.
Sophomore Aubre Smith and freshman Liz Leeds led the Trojans as they each had eight kills and hit over .200.
Also assisting the Trojans offensively was sophomore Meghan Washlow who had 23 assists, two aces and six digs.
FIU's Yarimar Rosa notched 21 kills for a .515 hitting percentage to guide the Panthers to victory.
Game one saw the Trojans try to keep the score close, 15-13 but toward the end FIU pulled away, 23-17 and Troy could never close the gap as it fell, 30-20.
Troy started game two off with a three point lead, 3-1 before allowing FIU to catch-up, 8-7. The Panthers then gained the momentum and never looked back taking the lead, 20-16. Troy closed the gap but could never capitalize to get the points needed.
Troy and FIU traded points to begin game three but then FIU took the lead 20-21. Troy continued to fight but FIU proved too strong maintaining the lead late, 28-26.
