TROY -- The Troy defense scored on a blocked punt and an interception return and held Huntingdon to negative yardage for much of the contest during a 30-6 win over the Hawks Sunday at Movie Gallery Stadium.
Freshman running back Josh Brownell scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter and a one-yard plunge in the fourth quarter to lead a Troy offense that had 128 yards on the ground and 81 yards through the air. The two TD runs were Brownell's only carries in the game.
Redshirt freshman Nathan Nolin blocked a punt by Huntingdon's Lee Lackey in the second quarter and recovered in the end zone for Troy second touchdown and a 14-0 halftime lead.
While Troy piled up 118 total yards in the first half, the Trojan defense held the Hawks to minus one yard of total offense, and just two first downs, both by penalty, in the opening half.
The only scoring in the third quarter came on a 23-yard field goal by redshirt freshman Alex Burkett.
After Brownell's second TD run started the fourth quarter, Huntingdon got on the board when freshman quarterback Matt Forrest hooked up with Steven Laye for a 54-yard scoring pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving Troy with a 24-6 lead.
