Members of the Troy University football program who have seen limited, or no, playing time in the Trojans' four games this season will have an opportunity to showcase their talents on the turf at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium on Sunday afternoon when the Trojans host Huntington College in a junior varsity game.
The contest is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will primarily feature freshmen and sophomores for the Trojans and Hawks.
"It will be good to get these guys on the field and let them compete against someone other than their teammates," Trojans coach Larry Blakeney said. "These players are very important to our program, this year and for the future, and I know they are excited about this opportunity."
The junior varsity game, a first for Troy in several years, will be the first of two scheduled this season. Troy will also face Georgia Military Academy on Thursday night, October 19, at 6 p.m.
The Troy roster for the game includes 38 players, 13 of which have seen very limited time on the field this season. The other 25 players are walk-ons, true freshmen and redshirt freshmen.
The most experienced player expected to see action in the game is sophomore quarterback Julian Foster, who started four games for the Trojans in 2005 as a true freshman.
The Trojan squad will be coached on Sunday by former Troy tight end Jordan Lesley, who currently serves as an administrative assistant in the football office. He will be assisted by Robby Brown, Randy Wilkins, Ryan Locke, Kyle Fuller, Chris Burkhalter and Eddie Ruiz, who all serve as graduate or student assistant coaches.
The Huntington Hawks, who are coached by legendary Troy quarterback, and former assistant coach, Mike Turk, will bring a roster of 68 players to Troy for the game.
Admission for the junior varsity game on Sunday is free.
