TROY, Ala. - Troy hit the practice field for the second time on Saturday, going through a two-and-a half hour workout that ended under the lights. The last 20 minutes featured a spirited 11-on-11 non-contact drill.
This was a slower practice than yesterday, but it was still upbeat,” Head Coach Larry Blakeney said.
Blakeney also said this is still a time of growth.
We are trying to teach the players and let them learn,” he said, At this point of camp, it is still about developing the players.”
In Blakeney's opinion a lot hinges on the quarterbacks at this point.
It's all about execution... quarterbacks making plays to the wide receivers and [the receivers] making guys miss.”
One receiver really stuck out in Coach Blakeney's mind after Saturday's session. [Patrick] Cherry made two really good catches for us today; he really looked good.”
Putting on the Pads: After two days in helmets only, the Trojans will practice for the first time in shoulder pads Sunday evening. The first day in full pads is Tuesday.
We'll see a lot more action tomorrow with pads,” Blakeney admitted.
Trojan Tidbits: Hoover High School Head Coach Rush Propst was in attendance on Saturday, taking in the action of a former player, true freshman Cornelius Williams... Sherrod Martin (shoulders) missed practice for the second straight day... Defensive back Leodis McKelvin worked with the first team offense as he figures to see action on both sides of the ball at some point during the season.
