Practice Report #14: August 23

TROY, Ala. - A light rain sprinkled the field at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium for the latter part of practice on Wednesday as the Troy Trojans continued preparations for the 2006 season.
Head coach Larry Blakeney was pleased with the performance of his team.
"The offense looked sharp today," he said. "The defense is really learning what to do in the right situations."
Blakeney was also impressed with the work of his special teams unit.
"We got some good kicking work in towards the middle of practice," Blakeney said. "Our punt returns looked good - that should be a big weapon for us."
The Trojans will hit the practice field once again on Thursday at 2:45 p.m.
TROY bolsters roster: The Trojans added five Division-I transfers to their roster today.
Linebacker Carvel Jones (Mississippi State), wide receiver Rod Jones (Tulsa), defensive lineman Curtis Dawson (Alabama) and defensive backs Travis Robinson (Alabama) and Trevor Ford (Florida State) have all transferred to Troy.
Rod Jones is the lone player of this group that will be eligible this season, with the other three becoming eligible in 2007.
Blakeney is glad to add the new players and is looking forward to their contributions on the practice field.
"It's always good to get help," he said. "They can help us even without getting on the field on Saturdays. They will definitely make our scout team better."
Overall, he believes the young men have a good attitude and are looking forward to their opportunities.
"These guys are excited about the chance to make a name for themselves in a new place."
Fan Day This Sunday: Come join the Trojans as they give back to the fans at 2 p.m. this Sunday at Trojan Arena. Come meet all of your favorite Trojans from the football, women's soccer and volleyball teams. The Troy University cheerleaders will also be in attendance. FREE Dairy Fresh ice cream will be given away. Admission is free, and posters will be available for the athletes and coaches to sign, so come enjoy the festivities in the air conditioning of Trojan Arena.
