Trojans Endure Afternoon Heat
TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojans football team completed a steamy afternoon practice on Thursday with more scout team work as they begin to work towards their season opening home match-up with Alabama State on September 2.
Head Coach Larry Blakeney said his team is still working on the basics.
"We're starting to work on scout team stuff," Blakeney said. "We're working on the picking up the blitz and getting better at blitzing ourselves. We're still trying to get better at all the fundamentals."
Blakeney was pleased with production of his squad on Thursday, but emphasized that the current goal is being prepared for the scrimmage on Saturday.
"I saw good things all over the place, on both sides of the ball," Blakeney said. "We're getting ready for a game type scrimmage. We're going to run ones versus ones, and twos versus twos. We'll have officials out here and we're going to create a game-like atmosphere."
The Trojans will scrimmage at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
Practice Notes: James Gardner missed practiced once again, but is hoping to be involved in drills sometime next week … Kenny Griffin, Jonathan Reese and Nathan Nolin all missed practice … The punting situation is beginning to clear up as senior Jason Wright has edged ahead of junior Adrian Vera, but Coach Blakeney noted that Vera is far from out of it.
