Assistant Coach
4th Season at Troy
Pitching Coach
Athens State, 2001
After playing for, and then coaching under, Bobby Pierce at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, Todd Lamberth followed his mentor to Troy, becoming the Trojans' pitching coach in July 2002.
Lamberth spent the previous four seasons as the pitching coach at UAH, helping the Chargers to a 164-64 (.719) record. During that same period, UAH captured the 1999 and 2000 Gulf South Conference East Division championships, the 2001 GSC championship and advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional tournament three consecutive seasons from 1999-2001.
In 2002, the UAH pitching staff finished fourth in the GSC with a 4.09 earned run average and threw 11 complete games. The staff featured three seven-game winners and saw four pitchers with ERAs under 3.70.
Upon joining the staff at Troy, Lamberth continued to produce top quality pitching. His first year at Troy the Trojans finished second in the Atlantic Sun Conference in overall team ERA at 4.31.
His second year at Troy he helped Nate Moore become the first Division I first team All-American in Trojans history. Moore went on to be a fourth round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals after leading Division I with a 1.25 ERA.
In addition to Moore, he helped two other Trojans etch their names in the Troy record books. During their four-year careers Eric Wikstrom and Mal Winters appeared in 135 combined games. Winters holds the school career record with 74 appearances. They rank second and fifth respectively in career innings pitched, and second and fourth in career strikeouts.
The Troy pitching staff reached new heights in 2005 under Lamberth's direction. Brent Adcock earned Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the league in wins with 11. Two other Trojans hurlers, Landon Brazell and Tony Falls, were named second team All-Conference after ranking second and third respectively in strikeouts per nine innings.
As a team, the Trojans captured the A-Sun title in 2005 by ranking second in the league, and 67th in the nation, in team ERA at 4.19. Brazell went on to have a stellar rookie season as a free agent signee in the Florida Marlins' organization.
Lamberth was a two-year letter winner as a first baseman and pitcher for the Chargers from 1996-97. A career .309 hitter, the Attalla, Ala., native played in 73 games and started 59. He served as a designated hitter/pitcher on the inaugural UAH team that won the Eastern Division of the Gulf South Conference in 1996. Offensively that season, he hit .338 in 71 at-bats with 14 RBI and 22 walks. On the mound, he appeared in seven games, making two starts with an 0-1 record.
He graduated from Etowah High School in 1993, where he was an All-State pitcher and first baseman. His collegiate career began at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Ala. He transferred to Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden, Ala., where he helped the team to a berth in the Alabama Junior College State Tournament.
After his playing career ended, Lamberth joined the coaching staff at Gadsden State and served as pitching coach for two seasons. Other than working with the pitchers, his responsibilities included recruiting, coordinating practice and strength and conditioning.
A 2001 graduate of Athens State University, Lamberth, 30, is married to the former Kaci Kelton of Gadsden, Ala.
