Graduate Assistant Tamra Howren

After a successful playing career at Troy, Tamra Howren will change roles this season and wear the hat of a coach. Howren will be the graduate assistant coach for the Trojans in 2006 and will work primairly with the hitters.
In her final season as a Trojan, Howren continued to rewrite the Troy record books. Howren set the single season record for slugging percentage (.775), RBIs (65) and home runs (23) in 2005. Howren is also in the top-10 for single season records in runs scored, on base percentage, doubles, batting and hits.
In addition to holding three single season records at Troy, Howren also holds a number of career records. Howren is the career record holder in home runs with 52, hits with 273, RBIs with 202 and doubles with 67. Howren is second on the career list in games played, fourth in runs scored, third in batting average, second in at bats and fifth in on base percentage.
Howren received a number of honors in 2005. She was named first-team all-conference for the Atlantic Sun and to the all-tournament team at the conference championsips. In addition to conference honors, Howren was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association South All-Region second team.
In 209 at bats Howren recorded a .364 batting average, 23 home runs, 17 doubles, 76 hits, accounted for 47 runs and had a slugging percentage of .775. Defensively Howren had 535 put outs, 40 assists and a .995 fielding percentage.
In 2004, Howren led the Trojans in home runs with 12, RBIs with 45, hits with 69, doubles with 16 and triples with four. Defensively Howren had 535 put outs, 40 assists and a .995 fielding percentage.
Born on Aug. 18, 1983, in New Westminster, Canada, Howren is the daughter of Mick and Judy Howren. Howren has a sister, Laura. In December of 2005, Howren graduated from Troy with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. She has been a member of the Canadian National team since 2003. She was recently selected to play at the World Cup a qualifier to the Olympics for the Canadian National team.
