Late Rally Not Enough as Trojans Fall

TROY, Ala. - The Trojans rallied late in the match with the Hilltoppers but it was not enough as they fell by scores of 30-14, 30-16 and 30-26.
Troy (9-21, 3-11 SBC) had no one with double digit kills as freshman Meghan Gilroy led the team with nine. For the match, Troy had 33 total kills compared to Western Kentucky's (24-8, 13-2) 50 and the Hilltoppers had a team hitting percentage of .373 to the Trojans .095.
The Hilltoppers were led by sophomore Meghan Albright who notched 13 kills for a .550 attack percentage.
In game one, the two teams traded points before Western Kentucky took a three-point lead, 10-7. Troy then lost the momentum as the Hilltoppers pulled ahead, 20-12.
Troy started the second game off sluggish falling into a hole early, 8-1. Troy then attempted a small comeback but it was not enough as Western Kentucky extended its lead, 24-14.
The Trojans caught fire in game three leading the Hilltoppers at one point, 9-7. The two then traded points, with Western Kentucky ending up on top, 18-15. Troy continued to battle but it was not enough as the Hilltoppers still had a lead late, 29-25.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday when it faces Middle Tennessee (20-7, 11-3 SBC) at 7 p.m. after the Troy football game in Trojan Arena.
