Panthers Top Trojans in Four

MIAMI - Freshman Liz Leeds led the Troy University volleyball team on Friday as she notched 16 kills but it was not enough as the Trojans fell to Florida International by scores of 30-16, 30-22 and 30-14 after winning the first game 30-27.
Leed's 16 kills earned her a .323 hitting percentage for the match as she had only six errors.
Freshman Meghan Gilroy also helped the Trojans (9-23, 3-13 SBC) offensively as she had kills with 12 while sophomore Aubre Smith notched 10 of her own. Gilroy ended the match with a .556 attack percentage and only two errors in 18 attempts.
As a team Troy had 48 kills and eight service aces compared to Middle Tennessee (21-7, 13-3) who recorded 72 kills and ten service aces.
Yarimar Rosa led FIU with 20 kills for a .500 hitting percentage. Also adding assistance to the Golden Panthers was Olga Vergun as she had 16 kills for a .789 attack percentage with only one error in 19 attempts.
The two teams traded points early in game one before Troy took a small lead, 18-17. Troy then trailed 24-22 before notching a few points and pulling ahead, 28-27.
The Trojans were behind 14-8 to begin game two and although it tried to close the gap it was not enough as FIU continued to pull ahead, 26-14.
The third game once again saw the two teams' trade points before FIU pulled ahead, 18-14. The Trojans battled to within three, 20-17 but it was not enough as the Golden Panthers continued to pull ahead, 27-20.
Troy started the game off in the hole as FIU jumped out to an early lead, 10-6. FIU extended its lead to ten, 20-10 and the Trojans tried to fight their way back in the game but it was not enough as FIU continued to lead, 27-12.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday Nov. 11 at Florida Atlantic with that match set for 2 p.m. EST.
