Trojans Fall to Pioneers

DENVER, Colo. - The Troy University volleyball team lost to Denver on Sunday by scores of 30-17, 30-20 and 30-24 to end the weekend.
Troy (8-20, 2-10 SBC) had no one record double digit kills in the loss to Denver (14-9, 7-4 SBC) as three Trojans notched seven kills each for a team hitting percentage of .131.
Troy had 36 kills overall compared to the Pioneers who had 58 for an attack percentage of .407.
Freshman Meghan Gilroy had the most success for Troy as she went six for 11 earning a .455 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Meghan Washlow had four kills for an attack percentage of .300 and 29 assists on the day.
Troy has now lost six of its last seven matches with its last win coming on Oct. 5 over Louisiana-Monroe.
Troy fell behind early to the Pioneers, 8-3 before it fought back to within four, 14-10. Unable to close the gap, the Trojans allowed Denver its largest lead of the game, 25-14.
In game two, Troy kept the score close early, 4-2 before allowing Denver to take a significant lead, 16-8. Troy then tried to even the score but was unsuccessful as the Pioneers took a 10-point lead, 17-7.
The two teams traded points to begin game three with Troy leading 10-7 at one point. Denver regained the lead however and although the Trojans battled they could not close the gap, 27-20.
Troy will be back in action on Saturday Oct. 28 when plays host to South Alabama at 12 p.m.
