Troy University's Volleyball team swept a pair of matches Friday on the opening day of the Trojan Labor Day Classic at Trojan Arena.
In the first match, Troy (3-1) defeated Alabama State 30-28, 30-10 and 30-27. Eliza Zwettler stood out with 19 kills and a .531 hitting percentage. Leah Tenney added 13 kills for the Trojans, who had a .261 hitting percentage as a team.
We jumped off to a good start after the winning the first game against the Hornets,” Zwettler said. Playing the back-to-back matches at home was a plus.”
Troy carried its first-match momentum into the second by sweeping the Savannah State Tigers by scores of 30-22, 30-22 and 30-17.
Tenney and Zwettler again led the Trojans in double digit kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Reidy and Meghan Washlow combined for 30 defensive digs.
The team has stepped up its intensity in games than it has shown in practice,” interim head coach Michael Izumi said.
In the day's other matches, Louisiana-Monroe also posted a pair of wins, sweeping Savannah State and Alabama State. Action concludes tomorrow with Savannah State facing Alabama State at 11 a.m., and Troy playing Louisiana-Monroe at 2 at Trojan Arena. Admission is free.
