Macon, Ga. - Troy senior outfielder Adam Godwin and Georgia State left-handed pitcher Ben Rulon earned Atlantic Sun Baseball Player and Pitcher-of-the-Week honors as named by the league office on Monday. Godwin's consistent offensive play carried his team to a 4-0 week, while Rulon earned a complete game victory over conference rival UCF.
Adam Godwin, of Enterprise, Ala., batted .563 on 9-for-16 hitting while carrying a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage. In four games, including a sweep of conference foe Stetson, he drove in 10 runs, scored three times, hit three home runs, had a game-deciding triple, and stole seven bases. Godwin now leads not only the conference, but the nation in stolen bases with 76, and now holds the distinction of a having one of the top-ten best single seasons in NCAA history. Furthermore, his career mark of 104 stolen bases is an A-Sun record. Adam also contributed on defense with 13 putouts from his center-field position. This marks the third time this season that Godwin has received player-of-the-week honors.
Ben Rulon, of Columbus, Ga., earned his third A-Sun Pitcher-of-the-Week honor this season by pitching 10 innings without allowing an earned run, including a complete game victory over UCF, 3-2. In that game, he allowed only five hits and four walks while striking out three in 36 batters faced. This marks the fourth time this season that Rulon has gone the distance and this is the second time that he has not allowed an earned run. Earlier in the week, he pitched an inning of relief in a win against Georgia Southern where he faced four batters and struck out one. The UCF win guarantees Georgia State a berth in its first A-Sun baseball tournament since 2000.
Troy (35-16, 22-5 A-Sun) returns to the diamond tomorrow when the Trojans travel to face Jacksonville State. Georgia State's (25-27, 15-12 A-Sun) next test will be at home on Thursday night against Florida Atlantic.
