After just one week of spring practice, the 2005 Troy Trojans football team will show off its talents in the annual T-Day Game at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium on Saturday. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and admission is free.
The Trojans must replace eight starters on offense and six on defense from the first bowl team in school history.
The 2005 squad will be led by senior linebackers Leverne Johnson and Bernard Davis along with senior cornerback Johnny Faulk. That trio formed the back-bone of a defense that finished in the top 20 in the nation in almost every defensive category in 2004.
But, the Trojans must replace their entire front four on defense, as well as four starting offensive linemen. In addition the team must replace all-time leading rusher DeWhitt Betterson as well as receiver Jason Samples on offense.
Special teams standouts will return for the Trojans this fall in the form of senior punter Thomas Olmsted, sophomore place kicker Greg Whibbs, and kick returners Leodis McKelvin and Adrian Ghent.
Saturday's controlled scrimmage will feature the Troy offense, in red jerseys, against the Troy defense, in white jerseys. Some players who could see action on offense or defense, but will primarily be involved in special teams play, will be wearing black jerseys for the scrimmage.
Following the T-Day Scrimmage, which will be the sixth of 15 scheduled practices this spring, the squad will return with two practices next week before spring break. Following spring break the team is scheduled to have four practices the week of March 28 and the final three practices the week of April 4.
Scrimmages are scheduled for Saturday, April 2, and April 9.
