Assistant Coach Barbara Sherwood

Assistant coach Barbara Sherwood is beginning her seventh season as an assistant coach for the Lady Trojans. She is responsible for the pitchers and catchers as well as being the recruiting coordinator.
2004 saw the Lady Trojan pitchers earn an impressive 2.43 ERA with two pitchers earning ten or more wins and one earning 16.
In 2003, Sherwood guided the pitching staff to unprecedented heights. Under Sherwood's guidance, senior pitcher Christi Curran finished the season in a three-way tie for most saves in the nation, with 11 saves in 34 appearances.
During the 2002 campaign, Sherwood's influence helped Curran tie for sixth in the nation with six saves, while fellow pitcher Ashley Floyd ranked 55th nationally with a 1.27 ERA.
A four-year letter-winner at Troy State, Sherwood was the starting catcher for three years, as well as a team captain. She hit .246 during her career with one home run and 46 RBIs and finished her career with a .358 on base percentage, including a career high .410 on-base percentage in 1997.
In 1996, Sherwood hit .247 and drove in 18 runs, leading the Lady Trojans to the Mid-Continent Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. During her career, Sherwood helped lead Troy State to 176 wins, the most of any player in school history.
Sherwood also lettered two seasons in volleyball, playing as both a defensive specialist and outside hitter.
In 1998, Sherwood was Troy State's nominee for the NCAA "Woman of the Year" award after receiving her bachelor's degree from Troy State in physical education. She went on to receive her master's degree in physical education during the fall of 2000 from TSU.
After graduation in 1998, Sherwood was hired as an assistant coach. Since coming on board, the Lady Trojans have a 205-119 record.
She is the daughter of Tommy and Bonny Johns. She also has a sister, Becky, and a twin brother, Brad.
