North Texas completes a sweep of the Trojans for the season after sweeping the Trojans at Trojan Arena earlier this season.
Troy could not get its offense going in the first game. When on the attack, the Trojans committed 11 errors compared to the Mean Green's two.
Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Eliza Zwettler (Madison, Wis.) and freshman middle blocker Leah Tenney (Richland Center, Wis.) contributed three kills a piece.
"We didn't play to our capabilities," interim head coach Michael Izumi said.
"Every aspect of the game was flat."
Game two would prove to be a better affair than the first for Troy.
The Trojans had a 7-5 lead over North Texas before its same problem it had faced in game one surfaced again in game two; errors.
On the attack, Troy tallied 31 kills but was outdone yet again by attack errors as it amassed 28 to the Mean Green's eight. Zwettler and Tenney again led the Trojans with nine kills a piece. Sophomore libero Bridget Reidy (St. Charles, Mo.) chipped in 15 digs to aid the Trojans.
Scoring in game two was a tight affair until the Trojans broke away with a 27-25 lead. The two teams would go back and forth until North Texas scored the 37th point winning the exhausting contest 35-37.
After the half, the two teams continued their scoring tug-of-war.
Freshman setter Meghan Washlow (Carpentersville, Ill.) scored the first point of the contest as the Trojans built a 3-1 lead. However North Texas would immediately tie the score at 5-5 pulling away to a 18-23 lead before the Trojans offense awoke.
Tenney would score the Trojans 19th point via a service ace. Zwettler and freshman outside hitter Liz Schaab (Friendswood, Texas) would score Troy's next three points to pull within five points.
Troy would produce those five points while in the process committing costly mistakes which North Texas would use to ride to victory.
"Overall, I felt we played our best tonight in a long time," Izumi said.
"It was just a matter of which way the ball would fall."
The Trojans travel to Colorado to face the Denver Pioneers (13-9, 6-4) Sunday at 1 p.m.
Troy will finish its home schedule next Friday night, (Senior Night) against South Alabama.Admission to Trojan volleyball home matches is free.
