Troy volleyball to lead off the Sun Belt Conference Tournament

Troy (10-14, 3-10) faced the Hilltoppers last Sunday in Bowling Green, losing in three straight games by scores of 16-30, 16-30 and 17-30.
Against Western Kentucky, the Trojans dug themselves a deep hole by committing 12 attack errors in the first game. Overall, the Trojans totaled 25 attack errors in the match compared to the Hilltoppers nine.
During the topsy turvey 2005 season, Troy amassed 621 attack errors to its opponents 464 which contributed to several match losses. Troy's overall offense mustered 1106 kills which barely topped its opponents 1104.
Troy's defense this season averaged 14.4 digs a game just percentage points behind its opponents 14.7. The outlook for the team is promising with just one senior graduating. Troy has one junior, four sophomores and six freshman, some of whom rank as leaders in the Sun Belt Conference.
Sophomore outside hitter Eliza Zwettler, (Madison, Wis.) drove the Trojan offense this season notching 312 overall kills, 288 in-conference, which places her 5th in kills in the Sun Belt.
Zwettler also ended the season 6th in the Sun Belt with 33 service aces.
Teammate, sophomore libero Bridget Reidy, (St. Charles, Mo.) finished 4th in conference digs with 323, 322 overall.
Freshman setter Meghan Washlow, (Carpentersville, Ill.) ended the season 8th in conference with 816 assists, as well as landing 4th with 38 service aces.
The Trojans will attempt to extend their season tomorrow at noon against Western Kentucky. Should the Trojans win, they will face the winner of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and North Texas match Friday at 5 p.m.
