"Also, knowing they have an uphill battle to climb I believe will only make the team hungrier for a tournament bid," said Izumi.
In the Sun Belt West Division, Troy currently stands third behind North Texas (9-16, 3-4) and frontrunner Denver (12-7, 5-2). "In our division, not only are we in contention for a spot in the tournament, but also in line to receive the automatic bid of second place in the divsion," Izumi said.
"All six teams in our division have to face each as the season winds down while being seperated by only two matches."
Several Trojans currently rank in the top ten of conference categories. Freshman setter Meghan Washlow(Carpentersville, Ill.) currently leads the conference in service aces with 35 and is seventh in assists with 610.
Sophomore outside hitter Eliza Zwettler (Madison, Wis) stands fifth in the conference in kills with 216, and sixth in aces with 27.
Sophomore libero Bridget Reidy (St. Charles, Mo.) has collected 264 digs for fifth in the conference, and has also earned 23 service aces.
"Everything is up for grabs this weekend. We need to come out firing on all cylinders this weekend to climb closer to the conference tournament in Murfreesboro (Nov. 17-19)," Izumi said.
The Ragin Cajuns will play the South Alabama Jaguars on Friday night before traveling to Troy for the Sunday 1 p.m. match.
"We can't hold back anything against our remaining opponents. Every team in our division is capable of distancing itself as we are. "
Next week the Trojans travel to Denton and Denver to face the top two teams in its division.
This Sunday at Trojan Arena is "Halloween Night". Come dressed in your best costume. Also, at Sunday home matches this season, Sonic Restaurants will hand out free slushes to the first 50 fans.
