Troy (9-10, 2-6) began the match by winning game one 30-26, its first win on a Sunday this season.
In the first game, Troy's offense was supplied by freshman outside hitter Liz Schaab (Friendswood, Texas) with 9 kills and sophomore outside hitter Eliza Zwettler (Madison, Wis.) garnering 7.
Zwettler and sophomore libero Bridget Reidy (St. Charles, Mo.) each totaled 9 digs to cement the Trojan game one victory.
"We came out strong and fought hard," interim head coach Michael Izumi said.
"Once we evened the score at 6-6, the girls kept hustling and eventually broke away at 23-22 to win 30-26."
After the game one victory, Troy lost its steam holding onto the lead at 4-3 before falling 15-30.
"One or two ASU servers beat us and we couldn't catch up after that. We have to keep swinging even if our attempts are getting blocked."
Troy out blocked the Indians 6 to 5.
ASU attacked at a .500 clip to the Trojans .031 in game two.
"The third game we started fine. However, we became soft on our hits on numerous plays and couldn't fight our way back," Izumi said.
" We were struggling with their back row attack and their middle row production. The girls are still waiting for plays to develop when they need to anticipate them."
With the loss, the Trojans need to win three of the next two to have a shot at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Murfreesboro Tennessee Nov.17-19.
Troy has the next week off until Sunday Oct. 30 when the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns visit for the second match between the two schools. Troy defeated the Ragin Cajuns 3-2 on Oct 7 in Lafayette after falling in the first two games.
Match time against Louisiana Lafayette is set for 1 p.m.
At all Sunday home matches this season, Sonic Restaurants will provide free slushes to the first 50 fans in attendance.
Admission to all home volleyball matches is free.
