TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Trojan Volleyball team fell to George Mason in three games in the third game of the Florida State Classic.
TROY started off sluggish in games one and two falling to George Mason 30-18 and 30-14. In game three the Trojans fought valiantly against the Patriots but still fell 30-24.
The Patriots were nearly flawless on offense with 45 kills and only six attack errors. Junior outside hitter Natalia Porosa of George Mason led the Patriots offensively with nine kills and was second on the team in digs with eight. Libero Zulma Rojas led George Mason in digs with 14 and added eight kills of her own to tie her with Jaqueline Kohler and Niki Bernardes for the second most kills.
TROY was led offensively by senior Amy Brisbin who finished the match with 13 kills. Sophomore Kendra Sytsma was second in kills with five although she did not play in game three because of a nagging ankle injury. Freshman Bridget Reidy led TROY in digs with nine and was second in assists with six. Freshman Eliza Zwettler led TROY in assists with 18.
TROY will look to climb closer to .500 in its next match against host team Florida State. This will be the second meeting between the Seminoles and the Trojans.
The two teams last met in November of 1993. FSU defeated TROY in Tallahassee, Fla. 3-0. The Seminoles will look to end a three-match losing skid. FSU lost their tournament opener to the Patriots of George Mason 3-2.
