Letter To All Trojan Fans

Dear Trojan Fan:
What an exciting time to be a supporter of the Troy Trojans!
Our football team is preparing to play in its first bowl game, the Silicon Valley Football Classic. The game will be played on Thursday night, December 30, in San Jose, California. We will face a very tough Northern Illinois University team from the Mid-American Conference, and we need your help to make this bowl trip one that we will always remember.
The advantages of playing in a bowl game are many, but there are challenges as well. One of the biggest challenges we face is selling tickets for the game itself.
There is a misconception that teams that go to bowl games have everything paid for by the bowl, plus the school receives a big check for participating. That is simply not the case. The University must pay for all travel expenses for the team, support staff, cheerleaders and band. The cost to send that many people more than 2,300 miles is high, but we consider that cost an investment in the future of not only the Troy football program, but an investment in Troy University as a whole.
The 2004 Silicon Valley Football Classic provides game tickets that must be sold to cover the costs of travel and expenses for Troy University for its participation in the game. Ticket sales are also an investment in the future of the Trojan program because other bowls will judge Troy based on how well we sell tickets, and how many people attend this game.
We cannot overestimate how vitally important it is for all Troy fans and supporters to purchase tickets for the game. Even if there is no way for you and your family to make the trip to California, please support the team by buying tickets and donating them back to the Troy Department of Athletics. All donated tickets will be given to charitable organizations in the San Jose area for use. Groups such as the Boys and Girls Club, Civic Groups and Military bases will be offered these game tickets.
Supporters who do donate their tickets will receive a tax letter crediting their purchase, but even more than the tax benefit, you will be making an investment in the future of the Trojans' program.
All Troy fans, those who do plan to make the trip to California for the game as well as those who can't make the trip, can get all of the latest information on the Troy Athletics web site, www.TroyTrojans.com. There are links to the Silicon Valley Football Classic site, the Troy Athletics ticket office for ticket information, as well as to Anthony Travel for help with making travel arrangements to San Jose.
These are indeed exciting times at Troy University, and every Troy fan and supporter can be a part of the Trojans' bowl effort.
We need your continued help, and your continued support.
Go Trojans!
Sincerely,
| Larry Blakeney Head Football Coach ![]() | Scott Farmer Interim Director of Athletics ![]() |
