Trojan Volleyball Loses Second Straight Match, Georgia State Rolls to a 3-0 Win

TROY, Ala. - Troy University and Georgia State University faced off in Volleyball action Thursday night with the Lady Panthers of GSU defeating the Trojans 30-18, 30-18, 30-13 in three games en route to Troy's worst defeat since the first match of the season against Jacksonville State.
Troy University could not get anything going in the first game of the match as Georgia State began the match on a 14-1 run. Troy climbed back to score 18 points but the outcome of game one was never in question as GSU won 30-18.
Game two started much better for the Trojans as Troy and Georgia State battled to a 17-17 tie. Georgia State came out of a timeout and went on a 13-1 run to take game two 30-18. The lone bright spot for the Trojans was freshman Claire Murphy who notched six kills in the game.
Georgia State ran away with game three as the Trojans could not muster anything on offense. The Lady Panthers did not make many mistakes committing only three attack errors and hitting for .417 to take game three 30-13. Troy committed more errors than kills made and hit for a -.115.
Troy was led in the match on offense by Murphy and fellow freshman Erin Burnette. Murphy notched nine kills while Burnette had eight. This was also Burnette's first start of the season as she hit .312 from the outside hitter position. Troy had almost as many errors (27) as it did kills (33) on the match.
Troy falls to 7-17 on the season with a 2-6 record in the Atlantic Sun conference. Georgia State improves its record to 10-14 with a 6-2 record in the A-Sun. Troy goes on to take on Mercer in another A-Sun matchup Saturday at the Trojan Arena. Mercer is currently 11-13 overall and 4-4 in the A-Sun. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
