Trojans Drop Heartbreaker to Rival Jacksonville State in Volleyball Action 3-1.

TROY, Ala. - The Trojan Volleyball suffered a tough loss to the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. The Trojans fought hard but could not stop the offense of Jacksonville State.
It's a tough loss for us,” said coach Patrick Nicholas. We played well at times, we played with heart and desire, but other times we seemed unsure of ourselves on the court.”
Troy took game one of the match 30-28 on the play of freshman Claire Murphy. The Baton Rouge, La. native earned six kills and two blocks in the game. Troy trailed throughout most of the game but rallied late to win game one.
Game two saw the Gamecocks shake off the previous game to defeat the Trojans 30-19. Troy could not get their offense going as they amassed only eight kills in 40 attempts. Katie Moyers led the Gamecocks in game two with six kills while Shari Weyer notched five kills of her own to go along with her five service aces.
Troy and Jacksonville State battled back and forth to claim victory in game three but the Gamecocks pulled away in the end to take the game 30-27. At one point in the match the Trojans and Gamecocks were tied at 26 but it seemed as if Troy just ran out of gas. Sophomore Kendra Sytsma led the Trojans with with seven kills.
Troy seemed to find its rythem back in game four leading the Gamecocks at one point 17-12. But the Trojans could not stop Jacksonville State on offense and lost the game 30-21. Another freshman Jean McCarthy led the Trojans on offense in game four with her six kills on ten attempts.
In the match three Trojans had double-digit kills. Sytsma led all Trojans with 14, Murphy had 12 kills from the middle blocker position, and McCarthy had ten hitting from the outside.
Four Gamecocks hit double-digits in kills as Shari Weyer had 19, Abby Breit had 17, Katie Moyers had 15, and Kim Halbach had 10. The Gamecocks as a team had 76 kills while the Trojans as a whole only had 51.
Troy falls the 7-16 while Jacksonville State improves its record to 16-6. Troy will go on to host Atlantic Sun rival Georgia State Thursday, Oct. 28th in Trojan Arena. Game time starts at five p.m.
