Troy University to host Alabama State in Volleyball

The Hornets of Alabama State and the Trojans of Troy University have met 16 times with the Trojans taking all 16 matches. The Trojans will look to stay undefeated against Alabama State when the Hornets come into Troy on Oct. 13th.
Troy is coming off of a loss against the Hatters of Stetson University. The Trojans took the Hatters to the limits but still fell 30-27, 30-28, and 30-28. In the match the Trojans were led by freshman Claire Murphy and junior Holly Martin who finished with 14 and 13 kills respectively.
In last years match the Trojans dominated the Hornets taking the match 3-0 with wins of 30-19, 30-24, and 30-16. Former Trojan greats Rachel Hassan and Haven Triboulet helped guide the Trojans to the victory. Hassan finished the match with 12 kills and 10 digs while Triboulet led Troy with 15 kills and notched five digs. Current Trojans Kendra Sytsma and Holly Martin also had good outings. Sytsma had nine kills and five digs while Martin had six kills and six digs.
Shameka Shanklin led the Hornets with nine kills and seven digs. Tala Schwenke dished out 18 assists in the loss.
The Trojans will hit the road once again this season as it has away matches against Alcorn State and Mississippi State this weekend. The following weekend Troy will head to North Carolina to take on conference foes Campbell and Gardner-Webb.
