Erin Wright begins her first season as Troy's pitching coach after serving as the head coach at Hoover (Ala.) High School for one season.
Wright coached one season at Hoover and was named the Over the Mountain Coach of the Year after she led the Buccaneers to a 36-20 record and a trip to the Alabama 6A state tournament. Prior to her brief tenure at Hoover, Wright spent three seasons as the head coach at Mountain Brook (Ala.) High School. The Spartans made back-to-back regional appearances in her final two seasons at the helm of the program.
Wright was the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000 at Mortimer Jordan High School before a standout career at the University of Alabama. Wright helped lead Mortimer Jordan to the 1999 state championship and appearances in the title game in 1998 and 2000.
At Alabama, Wright earned multiple Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors and was named to the 2003 NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team. She posted a career mark of 62-21 in the circle with a 2.13 ERA and 558 strikeouts in 548.1 innings of work. The Crimson Tide won the 2003 SEC Tournament and advanced to the Women’s College World Series.
She began her coaching career as the head coach at Paul W. Bryant High School in Cottondale, Ala., in 2005. Wright moved to the collegiate ranks in 2006 as an assistant coach at Texas A&M Corpus Christi before spending two seasons as an assistant at the College of Charleston.
Wright returned to her high school alma mater as an assistant coach in 2009 before taking over as the head coach at Mountain Brook. Additionally, Wright has served as a pitching instructor at collegiate camps across the Southeast, including camps at Tennessee, Alabama, Troy, Florida, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and NC State.
Wright graduated from Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in human environmental sciences in 2004.
