Coaching Career:
Troy (2019-Pres.)
• Entering his second season as head coach in 2020-21
• Signed one of the best recurving classes in school history during the 2020 recruiting cycle that featured Troy’s first four star commitment (Antwan Burnett) in program history, two ASWA Super Five selections (Kam Woods and Duke Miles), and a three-time Alabama State Player of the Year (Woods).
• Re-energized the Trojan faithful, as Troy set a single-season attendance record and set a SBC single-game attendance record (South Alabama, 4523)
• Led the Trojans to the first season sweep over Georgia State since 2017-18
• Was the only head coach in the Sun Belt to earn five victories over the top four teams in the final standings.
TCU (2018-19)
• Spent one season working for Jamie Dixon at TCU as an assistant coach
• Helped lead the Horned Frogs to the Big 12 quarterfinals and to a No. 1 seed in the 2019 National Invitation Tournament
• Part of a TCU staff that took the program to the NIT semifinals enroute to 23 overall victories (tied for the second most in school history).
UT Arlington (1998-18)
• Spent 20 seasons working for his alma matter both as assistant coach (eight seasons) and the head coach (12 seasons)
• The all-time winningest coach in school history, Cross led the Mavericks to a total record of 225-161 during his 12 seasons at the helm (2006-2018)
• Earned Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors in 2017
• Named the 2012 Southland Conference Coach of the Year, after leading the Mavericks to a school record 24-9 overall record and a near perfect conference record (15-1)
• Led the Mavericks to the four best seasons in school history and to five postseason appearances, including the school’s first- ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2008
• Coached over 20 players who went on to play professionally including Erick Neal (Euro League), MarQuez Haynes (EuroBaksket) and Kevin Hervey (NBA, OKC Thunder)
• Advanced to the a conference title game four different times
• Authored five 20-win seasons, including his final three seasons in Arlington where he won a combined 72 games
• Led the Mavericks to a school-record 17 consecutive home victories from 2007-08
• Compiled a school record 16-game winning streak in 2011-12, and guided the Mavericks to victories in the first 15 Southland Conference games they played in
• Named the head coach at UT Arlington after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach (1998-06).
Playing Career:
UT Arlington (1995-98):
• Three-year letter winner for the Mavericks, where he appeared in 82 total games and made 58 starts
• Averaged 11.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game as a senior
• Was second in the Southland Conference in 3-point percentage, shooting a team-best 41.5 percent from behind the arc.
Personal:
• Married the former Jennifer Harris, who played volleyball for the Mavericks from 1995-98
• Has three sons: Austin (15), Cody (13) and Tyler (11)
• Was a two-time GTE/College Sports Information Directors of America Basketball Academic All-American
• Graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, earning his degree in marketing.
