Kelvin Lewis begins his third season as an assistant coach and director of player development in 2025-26.
The Trojans enter the season as the only team in the Sun Belt to record four consecutive 20-win seasons and the only program with 10 or more conference wins in each of the last four years.Â
The 2024-25 season marked Troy’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016-17. The team finished the regular season 23-11 overall and 13-5 in Sun Belt play, earning the conference regular season title.Â
Troy won three consecutive games in the Sun Belt Tournament, including a championship victory over No. 4 seed Arkansas State. The Trojans rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.Â
The 2023-24 season saw Troy win 20 regular season games for the third consecutive season, as well winning double-digit conference games for the third straight year. The Trojans are the only team in the Sun Belt to achieve that mark. The Trojans finished the regular season third in the Sun Belt, which is the highest they have finished during Scott Cross’ tenure. Troy was picked eighth in the coaches preseason poll. Troy played three nationally televised games and forced Oregon State into a double overtime showdown in Corvallis, Ore.
Prior to his tenure at Troy, Lewis spent 17 years playing basketball at the collegiate and professional level. He played one season at Auburn before transferring to Houston for the next three seasons. In his four college seasons, he averaged 11 points, three rebounds, 1.1 steals and one assist while shooting 40.6 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from three and 81.5 percent from the free-throw line.
While playing at Houston, Lewis was the 2009-10 C-USA Championship Most Valuable Player. He helped the Cougars win the championship game over UTEP by scoring 28 points on 11-15 shooting to clinch berth in the NCAA Tournament. Other honors he received while at Houston include 2009-10 C-USA Championship All-Tournament Team, 2009 All-Conference USA Third Team and 2009 C-USA All-Defensive Team.
He was also the 42nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, and finished 14th on the all-time Houston scoring list with 1,465 points. He is also No. 3 all time in three-point field goals with 251.
Following college, Lewis has been all over the world playing professional basketball. He spent time playing in the G-League for two years. He started with the Texas Legends before playing for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Following his time in the G-League he bounced around all over the world playing in Sweden, Finland, Romania, Greece, Hungary, Iceland and Germany. He rounded out his professional career in Austria where he played for SKN St. Polten from 2019-23.
During his career he was a 2012 NBA G-League champion, a two-time Korisliiga (Finland) champion (2014, 2018),the Korisliiga Defensive Player of the Year (2014), a Romanian Cup winner (2015) and the 2018 Urvalsdeild scoring champion (25.4 points).
He finished his professional career with five professional championships and 5,450 total points.Â
Lewis graduated from Houston in 2010 with his degree in Kinesiology.
