TROY, Ala. - Fresh off helping lead Troy to its first College World Series appearance, Trojan catcher Jimmy Janicki was named a Second Team All-American by Perfect Game and a Third Team All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday.
Janicki, the Sun Belt Player of the Year, has been one of the most productive hitters in college baseball this season. The sophomore enters the College World Series among the national leaders in RBIs (3rd - 85), doubles (5th - 24), total bases (10th - 175) and hits (11th - 92).
On the season, the Downers Grove, Ill. native is slashing an impressive .341/.413/.648, totaling the second-highest OPS in the Sun Belt Conference (1.061). Janicki's 19 home runs lead the SBC, and he's one homer shy of becoming the first player in Troy history with a 20-double, 20-homer season.
Janicki's 85 RBIs this season are also tied with former Trojan backstop Brooks Bryan's 2024 campaign for the Troy single-season record. On a national scale, Janicki is one of three players in college baseball - and the only catcher - with at least 20 doubles, 15 home runs, and 75 RBIs, joining Arizona State's Landon Hairston and Texas A&M's Caden Sorrell.Â
Defensively, Janicki has gunned down 10 base stealers while in the squat for the Trojans. His 12.71 defensive runs saved and 7.01 framing runs saved rank inside the top 20 nationally among catchers, according to D1Baseball.
In addition to his two All-America nods, Janicki earned a spot at the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Train Camp this summer as one of the top 56 non-draft-eligible players in the country. Baseball America ranks Janicki as the No. 27 prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft.
Janicki and the Trojans open the College World Series on Friday against West Virginia at 1 p.m.
