Troy Falls to South Alabama in Series Opener

TROY, Ala. - Troy dropped Friday night's series opener with South Alabama 12-1 in seven innings at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Trojans (24-26, 13-12 SBC) fell behind 3-0 in the first inning after a three-hour weather delay, and the Jaguars (31-18, 15-10 SBC) never looked back, out-hitting Troy 13-5.
Troy starter Benjamin Stubbs went four innings, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts. After putting up a pair of zeroes in the second and third, the Jaguars put up a four-run fourth inning, totaling four hits and a walk in the frame.
Right-hander Mitchell Heer gave South Alabama six strong innings with five strikeouts and three walks, limiting the Trojans to four hits and one run. Troy's only damage against Heer came on a solo home run by Sean Darnell in the fifth inning. Lefty Jaxon Shineflew closed out the ballgame for the Jaguars with a scoreless seventh, issuing one hit while striking out the side.
South Alabama added five runs against the Troy bullpen combination of Dylan King, Nate Criswell and Jackson Lucas, scoring one in the fifth and four in the seventh, capped off by a two-run Michael Young homer to put the run-rule into effect.

"You don't get off to a good start, and it just gives you that bad vibe, which is unfortunate. I'm not saying that meant the game is over, because I certainly didn't act that way and our team didn't act that way. In fact, it should have been a lot more than 3-0 based on where I was sitting, but it just makes it to where if you don't get off to that great start offensively, you're one more bad inning away, and that's unfortunately what happened."
